Linking to Library Resources in Discovery

In order to add ANY Permalink into Discovery, it is recommended that you go to Upload/Create within a Module and then Create a Link.  You will then you be asked to title your link and provide the Permalink URL.  To complete, click Create.

Creating a link will always work properly (as long as the link is current), as opposed to embedding the material within Discovery.

Discovery - Newer Model

  1. Once within the module where you want to add the link, click on the three dots next to "Create New," then select Edit.
  2. Type the text you want to create a link to (i.e., the title of the eBook). Highlight the text and click the Quicklink button that appears.
  3. Then add the link information (the actual link and confirm/edit the text). Notice that the https:// already exists in the link box. Copying and pasting a link may cause the https:// to appear twice. Double check the link! Make sure to select that you want the link to open in a New Window.
  4. Click Insert. The final result will show the linked title, which your students will be able to click on to reach the intended materials.

Tutorials for Faculty

Here are some tutorials that might help you, as a faculty member at Asbury, familiarize yourself with Kinlaw Library's resources. These tutorials will show you how to use Kinlaw Library's databases, give you a tour of the Faculty Resources Page, explain ways a librarian and faculty member might collaborate, and more.

These tutorials are a little more succinct than the tutorials the librarians create for Asbury students since our faculty typically have prior research experience. For more in-depth tutorials, please see the select Becoming a Better Researcher tutorials below. Feel free to contact a librarian if you have questions as well.

Select Becoming a Better Researcher Tutorials

Here are a few select tutorials made with students in mind that you, as a faculty member, might find helpful. These tutorials are a little more in-depth than the faculty-centered tutorials above. For more tutorials like the ones below, please see the Becoming a Better Researcher page, linked here:

Librarian Involvement

A librarian is automatically embedded into your D2L classroom.  They can be as involved or uninvolved in your class as you like.  Feel free to contact the Distance Services Librarian to discuss how she can assist you.

Collaborate with a librarian on lesson plans and/or creating assignments that emphasize information literacy and utilize resources available through Kinlaw Library.

The Distance Services Librarian would love to post her contact information within your welcome forum.  This will enable your students to know who she is and whom they can contact for research assistance.

A librarian is also able to participate in discussion forums.  They can lead and/or comment on various topics, as you see fit.

Connect with a librarian to discuss resources that are available for use by both you and your students. We have a variety of resources, including:

Librarians are able to purchase materials they may be helpful to your classes.  See the Material Request Form.

Information Literacy is important in all majors and classes.  A librarian can assist you by providing teaching tools such as handouts and short videos, which you can embed into your Discovery class.

A librarian would be thrilled to actually spend some time teaching and/or co-teaching in your D2L class.  This can be through videos or actually leading a synchronous class.  Contact the Distance Services Librarian to discuss ways you can collaborate.
