Visiting Scholars & Kinlaw Library

Asbury University's Kinlaw Library is delighted to help visiting scholars access and use available materials for their research.

Access:

Kinlaw Library provides borrowing privileges and research assistance to our community of visiting scholars.  Visiting scholars must receive official appointments through an Asbury University department with approval by the Provost.  You'll find the Visiting Scholars Approval Form at the bottom of this page.

Once approved, visiting scholars will :

  • Request Kinlaw Library Resource Access Privileges.  Fill out the form (located at the bottom of this page) and return it, along with the signed & completed Visiting Scholars Approval Form, to Kinlaw Library (library@asbury.edu).
  • Receive an Asbury University Visiting Scholar I.D. card, which will serve as their Kinlaw Library library card.
  • Receive an AU log-in (tied to their home institution's e-mail address) that grants the following privileges:
    • off-campus access to electronic resources
    • Internet access on your personal device, while on Asbury's campus
    • printing capabilities in Kinlaw Library (from provided computer stations)

General loan terms:

  • Visiting scholars can borrow regular circulating items for the duration of a semester, with a maximum of 50 items at a time.
  • Non-circulating items can be accessed and used within the library building.

Off-campus access to electronic items:

  • Off-campus access to Asbury University's electronic resources.  This access will only be available for the duration of your visiting scholar status (a maximum of 4 months at a time).

Recalls:

  • If an item you have checked out is needed for Reserves or by a current Asbury University student or faculty member, it may be recalled.  All items are subject to recall at any time.  You will be notified by e-mail and will have a new due date assigned to the item.  The item needs to be returned on or before the new due date to prevent fines from accruing.

Overdue Fines & Fees:

  • A charge of $0.05 a day is charged for up to 30 days an item is overdue.  After 30 days, overdue items are considered lost and you will be charged a $75 for each item.
  • As long as items are returned, the overdue fees will not exceed $5.
