What is it?
A book review traditionally has two elements:
Both elements play an important role in the review, and you want to make sure any reviews you are using contain both pieces. The summary introduces the author /subject matter/ context/ etc. The critique brings in the expertise of reviewer to determine the veritable success of the book at its attempted niche.
Where are they found?
Book reviews are typically found in discipline specific periodical (for art, that would be publications like Art in America, Art Forum, etc. We recommend checking the library database Omnifile, Academic Search Complete, and Research Library. See the video below for tips on searching in these databases.

What is it?
Like a book review, an art exhibit review has two elements:
Both elements play an important role in the review, and you want to make sure any reviews you are using contain both pieces. The summary discusses what was present in the actual exhibit, including the context of where the exhibit was located, how it was presented, etc. The critique brings in the art expertise of reviewer to discuss how the exhibit was received and its perceived success. If you find an exhibition catalog, that is different than an exhibit review. The exhibition catalog is a publication that includes essays and explanatory reviews (usually without the critique element) that generally accompanies the larger exhibit.
Where are they found?
Exhibit reviews are typically found in art periodical (like Art in America, Art Forum, etc.). Traditionally you would have located them in an annual index (a comprehensive list of the publications within a discipline that came out in a given year). Now we have the fortune to be able to search electronic indexes in some of our article databases. For art exhibit reviews, we recommend checking the library database Omnifile, Academic Search Complete, and Research Library. See the video below for tips on searching in these databases.
