Links to use in Discovery

ADDING Links to Discovery

To add ANY permalink into Discovery, it is recommended that you follow the process for adding an item to your module as below:

ALL links will work properly if created as a link item rather than embedding the link inside of the description text or other ways of doing this.

Films links and embedding

EXAMPLE:

Here is two ways to display a film inside of Discovery.   You can either provide the direct link, or embed it within the Discovery page.

This is a link to an FOD film:  http://go.asbury.edu:2048/login?url=http://fod.infobase.com/PortalPlaylists.aspx?wID=103572&xtid=2782

Below is the embedded version of this same video.

Finding Links to Ebooks

When you have searched our ebook collection, and are looking at the title information screen, you should see on the right side a set of tools, or buttons.  Click on the Permalink tool.

***  When you do, a box will open up at the TOP of the book information.  As below...

Put your cursor in the box to select the link, then copy it to the clipboard.   You can then paste that link anywhere, including Discovery.

Finding links for Articles in our Databases

EBSCO:

When you are looking at the individual citation for an article, the "PermaLink" icon will appear on the right hand side.  Click that, and then cut and paste the url in the box into your document, course page, or email.

The link itself may appear something like this:

http://go.asbury.edu:2048/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&AN=59205202    It should work from both ON and OFF campus.

PROQUEST:

When you are looking at the citation / full text for an individual record, scroll ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM of the information to see the Citation Information.  Here you will find a link to the document URL.  Copy and paste this into your document, course page, or email.

Persistent

The URL may look something like this:

http://go.asbury.edu:2048/login?url=http://search.proquest.com/docview/820916175?accountid=8379   It should work from both ON and OFF campus.

Finding Links for Films on Demand

Once you find a segment OR a title that you wish to link to, look below the abstract about that film.

It should have a persistent link box like this:

You can copy and paste the link listed into Discovery or Atheneo.     Our Proxy PREPEND URL should already be at the FRONT of this.  This will allow it to be accessed from off campus, directly to the film for viewing.  From off campus the student will be prompted for a login if they are not already logged in.   If they are already loged in, the link will still take them directly to the film.

IF you clicked on a segment title, the box will show the SEGMENT link as below:

ArtStor Images

You CAN copy a persistent URL for a single image or image group into your course.

Link to images

  1. Find your desired image and click the thumbnail once to select it.
  2. There are three ways to display a stable URL for the selected image.
In the ARTstor navigation bar, click Share > Generate image URL
    OR
Right click or CTRL+click the thumbnail > select Generate image URL
    OR
Click the thumbnail caption > select the “File properties” tab.
  3. From the window you are looking at, use the Ctrl- C keyboard shortcut to copy the URL value to the clipboard.
  4. Use the Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste the URL value into the destination browser, email, web page, or other electronic document.
  5. When ARTstor users click on this link, they will be taken directly to the specified image, displayed in the Image Viewer window. If they are within your institution's valid IP range, the URL will open immediately.

Link to image groups

  1. Open your image group.
  2. In the top navigation click Share > Generate image group URL
  3. In the dialog box that appears, use the Ctrl-C keyboard shortcut to copy the URL value to the clipboard.
  4. Use the Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste the URL value into the destination browser, email, web page, or other electronic document.
  5. When ARTstor users click on this link, they will be taken to the first image in your group, displayed in the Image Viewer window. They can use the navigation arrows in the bottom right corner to scroll through the group.
